Milford Sound has a rich and varied history and has been a resource for Maori for around 1000 years. The famous English naval commander, Captain Cook passed the entrance to Milford Sound twice and so the European “discovery” of Milford Sound is credited to Welsh adventurer John Grono. Despite modern access by road, sea and air, Milford Sound retains its natural beauty and still attracts an abundance of wildlife including dolphins, fur seals, penguins and many different sea birds.

December to February is an ideal time to visit Queenstown. But if you are looking for cheap holidays, then winter is best suited. It’s warmer, the crowd is less and you can soak up the sun. If you want to catch some snow, then August would be the best bet.

Visit Queenstown for a laidback vacation. It is known for adventure sports, historic mining towns and vineyards. The bungee jumping at Kawarau Gorge Suspension Bridge and jet-bloating on the shotover and Dart rivers are two things you don't want to miss while in Queenstown. It is also a base for exploring the region’s vineyards and historic mining towns.
